Kelham Island Victorian Market 2010, Sheffield

****** CANCELLED, DUE TO SNOW!!!!  ******

Yes, another market...all busy with the run-up to Christmas...

This time it is the famous Kelham Island Victorian Christmas Market, in Sheffield. Its a 2-dayer on Sat 4th and Sunday 5th December, 10am-7pm..its £4 to get in, but free for children.....Tons of things to do, lots of stalls, childrens activities, a Victorian fairground...I've been before, and its probably the most Christmassy thing i've ever seen...though that could have had something to do with mulled wine...

Anyway, I'll be there with my stall, and looking somewhat Victorian!

More info about it here:

new stuff!

i have three new items i've created, a postcard set, and two greeting cards, just in time for chrimble!:

postcard set
the postcard pack contains eight cards (4 designs - 2 of each), all printed on heavyweight 300g recycled card. the images are all linocut designs that i've had printed digitally. i'm pretty pleased with how they look...

The pack is available from my Folksy shop, and also from various fairs i'll be selling at in november/december in Yorkshire. Oh, it is £4 plus p+p...

greeting cards
i've created two new greeting cards, both based on lino-cut images i have created (one quite old, one brand new), and printed digitally. again, they are printed on heavyweight 300g card, and come with a lovely ribbed brown paper envelope (like old wrapping paper). i'm selling them in packs of 3 in my Folksy shop, and also at the fairs too. Are they christmassy? i don't know!

packs are £5 plus p+p....

Candy Cane poster

my pal and comic-book don Elodie has gone and done the poster for the upcoming Craft Candy 'Candy Cane' craft fair. Good job, i reckon!

It is on saturday 27th nov 2010, 10am-4pm, at Millennium Galleries, Sheffield...i will have a stall there selling lots of new stuff and some old favourites...

'Ear Syringe' print for sale

my print of a rubber ear syringe is now for sale in my Folksy shop, and I'll also be selling it at the various upcoming markets/fairs.
a doctor gave me the rubber syringe and to use it at home. it worked! i was really struck by the beauty of the object, and so decided to create an artwork based on it.

it is a pencil and paint image, as a slight detour from my normal printwork. the media seemed to suit the subject better. the print is on 200g cyclus white card, A3 in size.

a few other new items to post up in the next few days...busy busy...

Ship ahoy!

hello again...yes, i've done another print. this time it is a copper-plate etching.

it is entitled 'Airfix Wasa' and is based on a 17th century Swedish galleon. I came across a really old Airfix model of it in a car-boot sale and felt inspired to turn it into a print!

more info on the actual vessel is here, if you are interested.

the print is an edition of 50, and is for sale in my folksy shop.

right, another new linocut done. its the one i used for my 'rolf harris' demonstration.

the image is of some stargazer lilies. i'm not normally one for flowers, but was somewhat drawn to them due to their shapes and angles.

the print is now in my Folksy shop

flowers linocut - process

i created a new linocut today. i thought it might be of interest to show work-in-progress (if you pardon the rather rolf harris-ness of it all).

1. so after i've traced the image onto the lino with a pencil, i start digging away with the lino-tools, trying not to gouge my hands, as does happen...

2. still digging, nearly there!

3. inking up the plate (with a roller). gives me a bit more of an idea how the print will look. its a bit hard to imagine what you'll 'get' before this step (although you could ink up the plate before digging, note to self)

4. test print. i always do a test print with black ink, so i can focus on the image, not the colour.  so, all i need to do now is make a few final adjustments, choose my print colour, print my edition, and stick it it the shop! i print normally with a small flatbed press, or occasionally with the help of a pudding spoon.

there we go...

My plates...

I took a pic recently of a load of my linocut plates whilst having a tidy-up....They look kind-of funny all lined up, a bit like they've just been dug up, or something...(excuse the fruit bowl, and my son's artwork)...

'Meersbrook View' print now for sale

Hello there

Right, my new linocut print is now for sale in my Folksy shop. Was away at the Green Man Festival, so putting it int shop was somewhat delayed. It is printed with blue ink on off-white German Zerkall 170gsm acid-free paper, from an edition of 100, signed and numbered.

It costs £12 plus p+p. Here is the link to it:

Sunday, 15 August 2010

hello...i've done a new art-piece. it is a linocut of a view through a window of Meersbrook in Sheffield. bit of a change of subject from the last one, i know! the Sheffield skyline is pretty inspiring, methinks.

i'm going to put it in my folksy shop in about a week.

cheers, and keep on crafting (and grafting)

New artwork: Rubber ear syringe

well, i've now figured out how to configure my blog. thanks to those who have chosen to follow me so far. i hope it may grow!

i have just completed a new piece of artwork. thought you might like to see it. it is of a rubber ear syringe. a doctor gave it to me and to use it at home. it worked! i was struck by the beauty of the object, and so decided to create an artwork based on it.

art and medicine in one place, ahem.

it is a pencil and paint image, as a slight detour from my normal printwork. the media seemed to suit the subject better. i'll be producing a series of posters of this to sell in my Folksy shop and at fairs soon.

New blog!

I have just created this blog to display my artwork and tell people about what i do. I create images using linocut and etching techniques. I've been doing this for a fair few years now, but only recently considered taking it 'seriously'. Oh, and I'm based in Sheffield, UK.

I am inspired mostly by the ordinarily absurd, animals, people, objects, landscapes, but probably not unicorns. A few artists who I like are Francisco Goya, Stanley Spencer and Max Beckmann.

I sell my works at various craft fairs, and also in my online shop:

Thats all for now. Just figured out how to display a slideshow. I'm very proud of myself. Next I'll be adding more content.
